Normal FAST (no free fluid)

FAST RUQ normal.gif

FAST - right upper quadrant

A normal hepato-renal space (Morrison’s pouch) is demonstrated here with no free fluid.

It is important to fan through Morrison’s pouch and also interrogate the caudal tip of the liver (where free fluid is most likely to accumulate first)

Free fluid in RUQ

Free fluid in Morisson’s pouch extending round the caudal tip of the liver

Free fluid around the caudal tip of the liver

Free fluid in LUQ

Free fluid surrounding the spleen - important to visualise the sub-diaphragmatic region in LUQ

Free fluid in pelvis

Free fluid in the pouch of Douglas

Spontaneous splenic rupture

Spontaneous splenic rupture - organised perisplenic blood appearing echogenic
